Leadmines update

We are able to announce some further information regarding the planning application for the Leadmines

Firstly the survey of the whole site in relation to areas of contamination has been completed and passed to Ards Borough Council. We have had a quick look at some elements of it today, it is a massive document running to hundreds of pages, and while there are some areas of severe contamination the good news for us is that the area where the proposed trials park will be located is clear of any contamination and this will not affect our plans for the usage of it!

Andy and myself met with Richard Brittain today at the Leadmines to address some issues the planners raised in relation to accessing the area we intend to use. Concerns around the actual route taken to the area and the make up of any “lane” were discussed, the result being that a route was agreed which Richard will pass back to the planners and hopefully this will settle this issue.

The new fences at the top of the shale face have been erected by the relevant agency who have responsibility for the actual mine shafts in line with their health and safety and insurance requirements.

The gate on the round tower has been placed to restrict access to those who are drinking and lighting fires in there, an obvious health and safety matter, this doesn’t affect us as I don’t ever recall sections in there!!

Richard again expressed that it is the councils wish to get things moved on and get us back up there enjoying our sport!!

In closing on behalf of all at Moto Trial NI I would like to express our sincere thanks to Richard for his ongoing efforts with this to take it forward to a hopefully satisfactory conclusion for all concerned!

It is good to know, despite some contrary murmurs, that the Council are working with us on this matter, pushing to get us back where we want to be!!
